Countdown Memories

AN INTERVIEW WITH SIMONE

Jason: When did you start watching Countdown?

Simone: 1980 but full on from 1981...ie...THE year for great new artists!

Jason: What are amongst some of your greatest Countdown memories, favourite Countdown episodes?

Simone: I love the Kim Wilde stuff, I remember Madonna’s 1st interview and thinking she was GERMAN??????

Jason: Who were your favourite artists during the 70's and 80's that Countdown introduced you to?

Simone: Kim, Human League, Duran Duran, Madonna ,A-HA.

Jason: What were or are your favourite segments of the show?

Simone: Getting to see new clips and HUMDRUM.

Jason: Did you ever attend Countdown, and if not did you ever want to at the time?

Simone: Yes I tried for Kim's 86 Christmas show, but it was all out.

Jason: Were you shocked when the show ended?

Simone: To say the least!!!!!!

Jason: Do you think that given the chance, Countdown could have kept going to this day?

Simone: Well maybe...but today's music SUCKS, so it would have been hard to fill the show!

Jason: What do you think it is about Countdown that makes it still stand up today?

Simone: It was probably the world’s best ever pop program, a lot of effort for each guest.

Jason: Do you think it's important that Rage keep repeating Countdown so that a new generation may be introduced to the history of Australian and overseas music through Countdown and just in general?

Simone: ABSOLUTELY!!!!! Repeat them from 1980 onwards I say!!!!!!!!!!

Jason: Do you think the ABC should repeat Countdown on a regular basis?

Simone: Yes one a week.

Jason: What other music programs do you think were fantastic during that time and why?

Simone: SOUNDS was good, but I was rarely home to watch it..sob!

Jason: How do you think music and music programs differ today compared to the scene in the 70's and 80's?

Simone: These days everything is a clone of something else. Individuality is dead...no personality involved. Todays 'pop stars' might as well be computed generated.
